Speculations on Beauty
Seeking beauty while engulfed by it is not as easy as it might seem. Perhaps that’s because beauty is so omnidimensional and hard to define, so tied to context and perspective, so temporally variable. It’s perceived sensually but also through deeper faculties; it resonates in one’s soul, it echoes in one’s mind, it flashes and fades in one’s memory, it calls to us from a future that may well never come.
Perhaps that’s why in the midst of so much natural splendor in a place so famous for its feminine magnificence I sit writing, seeking to dispel a strange melancholy, to fill a yearning, to find a special meaning, to seal a strange vacuum; a need I perceive as somehow involving a deeper, more qualitative experience with beauty.
But if the first step in finding answers involves defining questions, I may be in trouble.
