Lost in Translation

Can ecstatic happiness cause writer’s block? I think it can, I think it has. Not just happiness but the immensely uplifting and spiritual intensity in joy conveyed by the Spanish word “feliz”, and that, an emotive charge it seems to acquire outside the context of its closest linguistic relative, “felicidad”.

What an interesting relationship between concepts and what a marvelous voyage from the former to the latter, a voyage seemingly beyond time and space into the realm of “alma” which also seems to carry much more spiritual power than the English word “soul”. I wonder: have I fallen in love with a language as well as a person?

Which brings me to the word “amor”.
