Picking up Strays
Some people who love animals very, very much find it impossible to resist helping strays, whether lost by careless masters or spawned in streets, either crowded or lonely. Sometimes they merely feed them or just pet them but at other times they bring them home, seeking to adopt them, and sometimes the strays stay, adopting and becoming adopted, while at other times they stray anew, traveling a path they may or may not understand.
That happens with people as well although frequently neither party realizes that one was a stray, or that both were strays.
Sometimes one or the other, maybe even both, believe that they’re dealing with the elusive love they’ve sought so long and sometimes, it becomes a self-fulfilling dream. But more often, as in the case of strays that just stay stray, it’s just an incidence of souls passing in the night, pausing briefly to smell faux roses, then continuing on their journeys to who knows where.
They certainly don’t.
