It’s Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Today I’m daring fate by wearing an old green New York Jets football, Jersey. Number 19, the Keyshawn Johnson model. The Jets, as always, well, at least since Super Bowl III, are addicted to tradition, and not in a good sense. So, to take my mind off this past weekend’s disaster against the Patriots, I let my mind soar and speculate on the divine, albeit in a quotidian fashion. After all, during January of 1969 the divine appeared to answer Jets’ fans prayers amidst promises of never asking for anything again. A deal the divine appears to have taken all too seriously.
Anyway ….
So, I asked myself, seeking to change the focus of my grumblings about inept officials and inept coaches and inept players and all too patient fans: “does the divine prefer the green of vegetation and mountains, or the blue of oceans and skies?”
I recall that back in the nineteen-fifties we assumed that our planet, as seen from space, was green. I think Robert Heinlein had something to do with that. Turns out that, as Frank Borman demonstrated, seen from space our planet is mainly a light blue and white, with only slight traces of green. That was quite a change. However, that does not, as a Jet’s fan, mean that the divine prefers blue. Perhaps green, especially the variant sported by Jets fans, is more exclusive. Perhaps that is why photosynthesis is so amazing.
Imagine, living on sunlight.
Of course, that brings brilliant yellow into the equation.
Damn! We just can’t win.
