Wandering in the Wilderness: US voters, 2016
To the left, in the valley between patience and procrastination, lies a level, almost uninhabited savanna, to too many the merest hint of a mirage.
To the right, a plateau overlooking the sea of restless recklessness on the beaches of which so many founder or lie wrecked.
In the middle, in search of a path, seekers pause, pondering, surrounded by quicksand, not natural quicksand but deliberately molded, as if to herd one away from prudence towards the lure of patiently waiting sirens.
Looking down on them from improbable heights, riding air currents on an old broom, a slender, ageless woman with an unusually verdant complexion keeps declaiming, … “what a world, what a world”!
